As someone who's studied religious movements, is that a trend youve noticed? Do doomsday/rapture prophecies tend to become more popular/imminent during difficult economic or political times?
Imo, yes. People don’t come home from a happy and fulfilling day at work to a loving family and go “you know, I think the world might end tomorrow.”
Apocalypticism is cope. And I mean that seriously. The world asks more of you, and gives you less in return, and when people lack the tools to understand why, they turn to ideologies of despair. Apocalypticism is one of them.

Maddie reached over and took a bite of Buck’s eggs, letting out a satisfied hum at the taste. “Anyway, we were showing each other pictures of our families, and she saw one of you.” She wiggled her eyebrows. “She thinks you’re cute.”
“Oh, um, really?”
“Mhm. She asked if you were available- she’s definitely not shy- but I told her you weren’t interested at the moment.”
Buck sat his fork down, eyes bouncing anxiously back and forth from his plate to Maddie. “Uh, wh- why’d you say that?”
Maddie shrugged. “Well, I just figured, you know, since…” she sighed. “I figured since your last relationship was with Tommy, and that was a- a new relationship for you, that you’d want to, just, continue in that direction for a bit. See how it works out.”

can we also hear about tommy adopting buckling eventually? you said they talked about doing it when he's older and can actually understand what that means so how does the baby feel about that idea?
i actually talked about it a tiny bit here but basically in my head this convo pops up when buckling is a preteen and gets into a fight with another boy at school. it’s so not like him to get into fights (see him growing up to be overly cautious about his actions because he doesn’t want to do something that can get him hurt and ultimately upset his dad) so buck and tommy show up to the school all concerned and buck’s concern’s making things a little bit worse and the kid clams up more only for him to spit out at the end that this kid said that tommy wasn’t his real dad, he just got stuck with buckling because he married buck. not to repeat that post i linked already but yeah buck’s earnest and offended with his “of course, he’s your dad” and tommy wry with his “buddy, if i got stuck with someone it’s your dad”
this obviously bears on buck and tommy for the rest of the day so buck brings up the adoption again like “it probably wouldn’t change anything for 12 year old runts but it could for buckling?” and tommy in all intents and purposes is buckling’s parent, he’s way moved past “he’s my partner’s child” and “omg i have a kid???” so it’s just a matter of legality really but also reassurance for their kid. so he goes to buckling like “yknow i’m your dad, right? not like your dad is, but you’ve been my son all this time, and if you want we can make it official with me adopting you. this was always the plan. and i’m not saying you have to call me dad or–” buckling interrupts him with a hug.
Sorry to Vague on main but the fact we have people saying they don’t get when Tommy Kinard proposed to Abby in 2017 when Gay Marriage was legalized federally 3 years earlier is insane. Like yes, comphet is unfair to your partner if they don’t know that they are bearding; we had a whole season of 911 about that, but idk maybe the man that was 14 when Matt Shepard was beat to death for being gay, and was in the DADT era military for an unknown period of time and served as a firefighter under a blatant homophobe for at least half a decade, who is implied to be estranged from his family because he’s gay had some deciding factors in trying to pretend he was straight for a little longer. my season 9 prediction is athena gets to go into space on a rich person’s spaceship and she’s hesistant but hasn’t had fun since bobby died so she goes on the trip. of course the ship malfunctions right after it leaves earth. athena is able to get everyone onto a new safer ship but she can’t save herself or the rich guy who owns the ship because the rocket is falling apart so she and the rich dude have to skydive back to earth like that other skydiver who broke the sound barrier that one time. the rich person doesn’t think he can do it but athena takes him by the hand and convinces him. maddie is on dispatch the whole time reading a guide on the computer to athena on how to use a parachute. there’s a split second when its unclear if athenas parachute will actually deploy but it does. she lands safely and conviently within meters of where the 118 has set up to rescue her. the rich dude lands in the ocean and thats when the whale eats him
